Morning Announcements

Monday Sept. 30, 2024

1.   Monday September 30th is National Truth and Reconciliation Day (Orange Shirt Day) at ACS.

2.   Are you interested in spreading kindness and want to support those who are in need in our community? Do you want to hang out with friends and have a great night while also earning community service hours?   Well, we have just the event for you! Come join the Assumption Scares Hunger event held on October 30 from 4 pm to 8:30 pm. The first meeting will be held on October 2, and the second meeting is on October 11th. All meetings are in the lecture hall and all meetings are held during the lunches. Come join the fun and help collect thousands of pounds of non perishable foods for those in need in our community. Want to learn more, and sign up? we hope to see you at the meetings!

3.   Student council is proud to announce that ticket sales for this year's homecoming dance will begin on Wednesday, October 2nd on school cash online. The event will run from 6-9pm on Thursday, October 10th and the cost is $7. If you intend to bring a guest from another school, please pick up a guest permission form from the main office TODAY. Guest tickets will be sold starting Thursday at the back of the caf on all 3 lunches, but permission forms MUST be completed before purchase. A reminder that only one guest is allowed per ACS student, and they must be enrolled in high school to attend."

4.   Attention grade nine students who have geography this semester ! You are invited to join the Niagara Falls geography trip on Thursday, October 17th! There are only 45 spots available, so please bring your signed permission form to Mrs. Walsh in room 3024 during your lunch break ASAP! We hope to see you there! 5.   Attention grade 9s - if you signed up for the 180 Team at club fest check your school email for important information about the 180 team retreat.

6.   We are looking for students to be altar servers at our school Masses. You do not have to have any previous experience but you do have to be Catholic for this role. Training for altar serving will take place this week on Wednesday right after school in the chapel. It will take about 20 minutes. Contact Mrs. Sheldrake in room 2053 if you are not able to attend and to schedule training at another time.

7.   Are you in grade 11 or 12 and would like to be a Eucharistic Minister for our school Masses.  Contact Mrs. Sheldrake today or tomorrow and she will provide training for you. You do have to be Catholic to be a Eucharistic Minister.

8.   On Tuesday during period one, we have a speaker coming in to talk about the trades in the area of plumbing, steamfitting and welding.   If you are in grades 11 or 12, please visit Mrs. Martello in Student services to sign up for this trades talk.

10.   Attention SINGERS! This is your LAST CHANCE to join Vocal Ensemble. The group will CLOSE to new members after October 1st. For those who are already a member, please make sure to join REMIND. Instructions on how to do so are posted on the music room door, #1154. See Mrs. Ratelband for more information.

11.   Attention Lions!    Please mark your calendars, the second meeting for Amplify Your Culture will be held on Thursday, October 3rd, on all lunches in the lecture hall. This is also your last chance to join the event and represent your culture to the school!  Also please check your emails for important information! 

12.   Dance Team Auditions will be held Wednesday, October 2nd from 3-5 on the stage in the caf. Register using the QR code outside of the Drama Room and pick up a permission form from Mrs. Boschman.   Please wear comfortable clothing to move in and a water bottle.  Email Mrs. Boschman if you have any further questions.

14.   There will be a meeting held today during senior lunch in Room 2006 with Mr. Virdo for ALL currently registered BUSINESS FOCUS SHSM STUDENTS as well as ALL STUDENTS IN THE DECA CLUB.    Feel free to bring your lunch.

15.   Attention Grade 11 and 12 French Students!     Le Club Français is thrilled to invite you to a Planning Advisory Council meeting at lunch today! We will brainstorm upcoming events, discuss leadership roles, and cover various other items!    This will be an excellent opportunity to share your ideas and collaborate on future events.    Please email Mme. 16.   Attention LEAPers and all readers! Do we have an opportunity for you! This Wednesday LEAP and the Library are hosting graphic novelist and artist, Svetlana Shmakova at 2:00 PM in the Lecture Hall. All students are welcome to attend with teacher permission. Please sign up in the library by the end of the day on Tuesday. See you there!

Sports Desk:

1.   On Thursday the junior girls basketball team defeated PJ 69-10. It was a great team game where all 12 players scored! Sienna Luciani led with 16, Kate Kostiuk had 8 and Manuela Stavale had 6. Avery Stapledon and Tanvee Angrish had great defensive games! The team plays tonight at 4:00 at ACS against McKinnon park! Come on out and cheer the girls on!

2.   Attention all Cross Country runners! If you are interested in participating in the Brock race this Thursday, you must let your coaches know by 3pm today! Reminder, bus leaves at 7:40am. Be there! From your coaches

Join us on Oct 9th to see the Stratford Festival's production of Romeo and Juliet.  First come, first serve as tickets are selling quickly.  There are only 5 spots left!!! See Mr. Agnolin in the staff room in period 1 or Ms. Morissette in portable 2 for field trip forms.

7.   A great double-header for the boys’ varsity baseball team yesterday.     They beat the North Park Trojans by a score of 7-2 followed by a close 5-4 loss to the Paris Panthers.

We're a dedicated team focused on promoting mental health awareness and fostering well-being for both staff and students. Throughout the year, we take part in various initiatives at both the school and national levels. We're looking for enthusiastic students from all grades to join our mission.  Meetings are held every Friday after school in the lecture hall, with our first meeting kicking off this Friday at 3:05 PM! 5.   The Gay-Straight Alliance, also known as the GSA, is having their first meeting today. This meeting is for anyone committed to making the school a safe and inclusive space for ALL students. There will be three different meetings in 3 different spaces, so pay attention:    The Grade 10 meeting will be held during first lunch in Portable 15.     The Grade 9 meeting will be held during second lunch in room 2060.     The Senior meeting will be held during third lunch in room 1141.

6.    Attention Environment Club Members.  Our first meeting will be Wednesday September 25th in Room 3024 at 3pm.  We will discuss plans for the school year, then head outside to the Community Gardens at Edith Monture Park.  New members always welcome - just email Mrs. Walsh or come to 3024 at the end of the day!

10.   They did it again!!!  Yesterday, the ACS golf team repeated as AABHN champions!  Congratulations to all of our students who excelled on the course and demonstrated tremendous sportsmanship.  The coaches are so proud of their effort and for securing ACS's first AABHN championship this year!  Congratulations to Ty Tischler (tied for lowest score), Adam Bednarz, Morgan Pelts, Johnny Laferriere, Matt Maclean, Lyra Hill, Addison McIntosh, Indie Warren, and Jasmine Splatt.    The team advances to the CWOSSA championships next week in Owen Sound

11.   Rugby 7s players will be practicing today at 3:50pm and Friday right afterschool, please ensure you have mouthguards and signed permission forms.  New members of the Cross Country who need to purchase a team shirt, please talk to Mrs. Czaplinska- Mastromatteo or Ms. Gomez.

12.   In boys’ varsity baseball’s opening week, the boys saw a loss of 9-3 against SJC but went on to beat the T-Birds 5-3 in their following game.

Monday, September 23, 2024                                          

1.   Attention grade 11 and 12 students. Are you interested in signing up for a Specialist High Skills Major program? Please come to the lecture hall on your lunch for a mandatory SHSM information meeting on Wednesday, Sept 25th.     Please talk to Ms. Martello for more information.

2.   Calling all dancers!  If you are interested in auditioning for ACS's Dance Team, please come and see Mrs. Boschman at the back of the cafeteria on all three lunches Monday for audition information and dates.    The Dance Team will run from Fall until Spring and will require a minimum commitment of at least one after school rehearsal per week. We will also perform at Pep Rallies and compete in 1-2 high school dance competitions. 

3.   Our ACS Prefects are proud to serve you, our lions, this semester.  Today marks the official start to our FREE Homework Help, Tutoring, and Mentorship services.  If you'd like be paired with a Prefect to get some help with a class you're struggling in, or you'd like to chat with them and find out how to get more involved at our school, please go to STUDENT SERVICES to grab an application, fill it out, and return it.  Our Prefect team will review your application and begin the process of pairing you with one of our ACS Prefects.

4.   This week is Truth & Reconciliation Week in preparation for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Day along with Orange Shirt Day on Monday September 30th.  Orange shirts will be for sale during all 3 lunches on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.  Limited number of shirts for $10.00 each.

5.   To Indigenous students: permission forms are for both trips are due Tuesday.

6.   Are you ready to get stronger and push your limits? Join the FIT: Faith in Training Powerlifting Club and be part of a community that supports and challenges you to be your best!   Build strength, improve fitness, and learn at your own pace, no experience needed!   Interested?
