SPORTS:

1.   Yesterday, our senior tennis team competed at the AABHN tournament at the Dufferin tennis club in Brantford. For the first time in ACS history, our team finished first and will have two groups moving on to CWOSSA. Our boy’s doubles, featuring Adam Bednarz and Matt MacLean, as well as our girl’s doubles team, made up of Czeska S and Eden List, both went unbeaten with 6-0 records. Victoria Chan and Cameron Vamos also finished second in the singles division with 5-1 records. Thanks to all the players for a great season and for doing a fantastic job representing our school. This group of players have now won three consecutive seasons and will be looking for one more next year.

2.   On Tuesday and Wednesday our boys and girls golf teams headed to the famous Stone Tree Golf Club in Owen Sound to play in the CWOSSA championships.  Our boys team, building on momentum from previous years, was looking to make a big jump in the standings.  With some great play the boys finished in second place only 3 strokes back of an OFSAA birth.  Big shout out to Johnny L who led the pack shooting a 76 on the day.  Our girls team, consisting of Lyra Hill and Addison McIntosh, made their first appearance at a CWOSSA golf championship from ACS in over 10 years.  On a windy, challenging day the girls played well but fell short of qualifying for OFSAA.  The coaches are super proud of their effort and sportsmanship.  Looking forward to next season!

3.   The Junior Lions got into the win column with a decisive 27-3 win over North Park last night. A great game on both sides of the ball. Kelechi Chuks scored 3 touchdowns and Cyrus Gapuz had 1 touchdown. Matthew Bucci made 3 converts.

4.   The Senior Lions also won, 38-7 over North Park. QB Ethan Madondoro threw 4 touchdowns, 3 to Gabe Hamilton and 1 to Carter Hogg. Cam Philbey also ran in a touchdown. Roy Anadebe added a field goal and Liam Doyle made 5 converts.  Defensive senior standouts - Samuel Omari, Wes Montani, Yuvraj Bhangu.  Both teams play Paris next week

5.   The girls field hockey team faced a tough double header yesterday playing against North Park and Hagersville.  In the first game, the Lions were able to control the ball for most of the game.  Goals were scored by Indie and Danika.  In the second game of the day, a very tired Lions team did all they could but just could not find the back of the net.  The girls walked away with a 0-0 tie.  Congratulations to Bella for earning 2 shut outs in net.

6.   Last night our Jr Boys Volleyball team played a tough match against BCI going all the way to game 5. Their dedication, teamwork and even better defense skills last night helped them secure some solid leads throughout the night. A quick shout out goes to Jackson and Greyson for the amazing skills and quick thinking they brought to the court last night. Wish the boys luck as they take on Paris on Monday.

7.   The varsity boys baseball team lost to BCI on Wednesday with a score of Iceland vs. Team U.S.A (round one) from The Mighty Ducks 2. Not to worry - the team always rises to the occasion, and we will work on baseball’s version of “The Flying V” - whatever that is.  The boys are reminded that there is practice on Monday at Bill Little Field, and they are asked to meet quickly in portable 5 following this announcement - if possible.

8.   The junior girls basketball team defeated BCI 77-28.  Another strong team game where all players contributed to the scoresheet.  Coralyn Towers, Sienna Lucinai and Kate Kostiuk lead the scoring! Halle Hawkins and Ali Arseneau played great defence. Next game is Monday at 4:00 in the lions den!

9.   The senior girl's basketball team had another great night on the road defeating BCI 70-33. All team members worked hard and put points up on the board. Shout outs go to Havana, Erin and Kate for their hustle and finishing abilities. Our lady lions are away at a tournament this weekend in Guelph and back in the lion's den on Monday at 5:30 to play Paris. Come out and support!

10.   Congratulations to our cross country team for running two extremely challenging races yesterday (October 3)! At the Brock Invitational, Stella, Oliver, and Foster all placed top 10 in their respective categories. Later in the afternoon while competing in the W. Ross relay, Stella, Oliver, Gavin and Penelope won the Junior mixed category, while our senior boys and senior mixed teams placed second. We are so proud of all of our runners - see you all at AABHN ready to run!
