1. The 2023-2024 Yearbook is here! Yearbooks will be delivered TODAY during first period. Yearbooks will only be given to Grade 10, 11, 12 and 12+ students who have paid their 2023-24 school year registration fee. Any student who is absent from Period 1 can go to the back of the cafeteria TODAY during their lunch to receive their book. Students with Period 1 online class, Period 1 Spare or Period 1 Co-op can pick up their Yearbook in the Library at lunch or after 1:30 today – see Mrs. Engell or Mrs. Santos. ACS Class of 2024 Graduates can pick up their Yearbook in the Main Office and can have a friend or sibling pick up on their behalf.
2. Welcome to the last 3 days before the Holidays! Student council has packed the next few days days full of exciting activities and theme days to celebrate. Check out posters around the school and on social media for more details. Today is Mrs Clause’s bakery day. Wear Red, White, Blue or Green tops with uniform bottoms. Caf cookies will be on sale today at lunch for only $1.50 each, and we will also have a cookie decorating station available to make them extra festive. Tomorrow is the Night before Christmas day. Wear Matching PJ sets (no shorts or sweatpants!). A holiday movie will be played in the lecture hall on all 3 lunches tomorrow, and hot chocolate will be sold for $1.
3. Attention grade 9 students. Night school courses for semester two are filling up fast. Cosmo and Foods are full but there is still a few spots left in Communications and Auto. Sign up this week to secure your spot
4. Attention Gr 12 or 13 students who expect to graduate June 2025! Just a reminder that your 40 volunteer hours are due to student services by this Friday! This deadline was given to you a few times since your grade 10 year.

9. Senior Badminton players, you have training tomorrow at 7am, make sure you bring a signed permission form!
10. Jack Chapter’s 4th Annual Post-Christmas Karaoke Night is happening, and you’re invited to belt your heart out - or at least try.... on Friday, January 10th, from 6–9 PM in the ACS cafeteria! For just $5, you get a night packed with karaoke, pizza, games, and prizes—basically everything your Friday night dreams are made of. But wait, there’s more! Simple Little Artsy will be selling handmade goodies, and the proceeds will go toward Jack Chapter initiatives. Tickets are cash only and will be sold at the back of the caf on all three lunches. Look for the commotion and the ticket-sellers channeling their inner Elvis, shouting, “Five bucks, one night, all shook up with fun!”

1. Congratulations to all the delegates from this year’s quake Model United Nations. The level of debate was impressive. A special thank you to Shriyak Kashyap and Mohid Khan for their amazing leadership in running the event, and all their hard work preparing. Congratulations to the top three delegates as voted by their peers, Joshua Ocampo, Haneet Sing and Emily Wu. Well done!
2. Dearest graduates...because Edge imaging is so wonderful, they have added one more day to your graduation photos. Thursday December 19th, 2024 is the last day to take your photos. The spots will fill up fast, therefore please book ASAP on the Edge Imaging website! Thank you, Mrs. Mastromatteo.

1. Exciting news! The Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association is proud to sponsor the Young Authors Awards once again! We're celebrating outstanding student writing from K through 12 in both English and French. Students are invited to submit their best fiction, poetry, plays, and nonfiction (up to 3000 words). Winners will progress through school, local unit, and provincial levels, with provincial winners featured in an anthology! Please submit 2 clean copies of each entry to Mrs. Engell in the Library by Friday, February 7th. Happy writing, Lions!

2. Hey Hey Homerooms! Listen up! The FINAL Pennies from Heaven last classroom collection will happen this TODAY. The Social Justice students will be coming around to each class to collect the containers of money. Teachers, please excuse the interruption to your class time as we hope this will only take a few minutes. Remember, we will count the money and record it for you!
3. The lost and found will be cleaned out by day end Monday. If you have lost or misplaced anything, please be sure to check it out as everything will be donated.
4. The Brant County OPP has a great opportunity for some of our students grade 10 and older to apply! They are running a Citizen Youth Academy from January to March. The Academy meets on Wednesdays from 7 – 9 PM and topics covered include K-9 unit, tactical response, forensics, collision reconstruction, etc. Applications are in Student Services and due today. Please see Ms. Martello in Student Services for more information and an application form!
5. Mrs. Cameron’s classes are creating art pieces for 2 nursing homes and Stedman hospice. If any ACS student or staff would like to create an artwork (Christmas theme) and/or write a card and drop it off in room 1004, we will add it to this charitable cause. We hope to drop off the artworks with cards before Christmas.

Please make sure you have everything you need with you when you arrive. Coat check will be available for bags and other items if needed. If you need a late taxi to Caledonia for after the dance, requests must be made in the main office by no later than 12:00 pm today. The theme of the dance is Nutcracker Candyland. Dress to excess in semi-formal attire. Outfits do not have to be nutcracker themed, but should reflect the moral tone of Assumption College School. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Sports
1. Congrats to our Jr girls volleyball team who brought home yet another win against Paris High School last night. Overall the girls played a great game, but it was their serving streaks and determination that really took us over the edge. Shout outs go to Mikayla and Addison on their amazing serving skills as well as Coralyn and Avery for defending the ball every chance they got.
2. The girls hockey team put themselves back in the win column with a 3-0 win over SJC on Wednesday. Goals were scored by Bri Spence, Carling Ruddell and Madi Schlosser. Kayli Sault earned her first regular season shut out as a Lion. Good job girls.
3. After a tough loss to BCI on Tuesday, the senior boys basketball team bounced back to take a 34-point win over Paris last night. Andrew took home 25 points and Zagham 15. Gabe, Carter and Ryan played tough defense. Come out and support our lions on Monday at SJC and at home on Tuesday against NPC. Let’s go boys!

1. Have you noticed the Christmas tree on the second floor near the chapel? This beautiful Christmas tree is called the TREE OF HOPE! We set this tree up every year to help with our Pennies from Heaven Campaign. As you can see, the tree is filled with ornaments that have a gift card request written on them. If you feel that you can help one of our school families with one of these generous gift card donations, please remove the tag from the tree, buy the gift card, and return them together to the main office. Every gift card collected will go to the families that we support through our Pennies From Heaven Campaign. Thank you for your support!...and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

We will be meeting on Wednesdays after school from 3pm-4pm in Room 2023 starting TODAY! If you want to use the Queen’s Gambit, set up the Sicilian or French defense, or you just want to know how to set up the board and what the horsey and castle are called, we welcome and accept all levels of play as we learn and grow together. Please see Mr. DaCosta if you cannot attend.

1. Junior girls volleyball team played an amazing game last night against BCI. With their quick thinking and great defense skills the team was able to bring home yet another win in just 3 sets! Wish the girls luck as they play Paris tomorrow. Shout outs go to Jordyn, Avery, and Kara.

1. Have you heard? The Christmas concert is TOMORROW! One more sleep to hear amazing music from the guitar, vocal and gr.9 instrumental classes PLUS the Vocal Ensemble and Concert Band! This year’s theme is the message of hope. The concert is in the cafeteria and starts at 7pm. It’s FREE, however, we are accepting donations to support the Music Program. We HOPE to see you there!

1. Have you noticed the Christmas tree on the second floor near the chapel? This beautiful Christmas tree is called the TREE OF HOPE! We set this tree up every year to help with our Pennies from Heaven Campaign. As you can see, the tree is filled with ornaments that have a gift card request written on them. If you feel that you can help one of our school families with one of these generous gift card donations, please remove the tag from the tree, buy the gift card, and return them together to the main office. Every gift card collected will go to the families that we support through our Pennies From Heaven Campaign. Thank you for your support!...and MERRY CHRISTMAS!
2. Graduates: You’ve had your meeting. You have your information booklet. Now you have to do 2 things. #1 Register to graduate using the link on the Grade 12 D2L page. and #2: Pay to participate using School Cash On-Line. Deadline is December 6th. That’s only 4 school days away
3. Attention curlers. Our first tryout will be today after school at 3:30. Make sure you bring clean shoes, all of your paperwork, and the tryout fee with you.

6. Great News! The Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association is excited to announce the return of the Young Authors Awards! This event celebrates outstanding student writing from Kindergarten through Grade 12 in both English and French. Students are invited to submit their best works of fiction, poetry, plays, and nonfiction (up to 3000 words). Winners will progress through school, local unit, and provincial levels, with provincial winners being featured in an anthology! Please submit two clean copies of each entry to Mrs. Engell in the Library by Friday, February 7th. Happy writing, Lions!

8. CHECKMATE! Are you looking to extend your critical thinking skills, learn a new game and/or meet new people? The Chess Club is BACK! We will be meeting on Wednesdays after school from 3pm-4pm in Room 2023 starting December 4th. If you want to use the Queen’s Gambit, set up the Sicilian or French defense, or you just want to know how to set up the board and what the horsey and castle are called, we welcome and accept all levels of play as we learn and grow together. Please see Mr. DaCosta if you cannot attend.

Calling all athletes interested in joining the Junior & Senior Badminton Teams, please pick up a permission form by the male physed class and ensure you fill out the QR code by the female physed office. The first practice for the Juniors will be Thursday morning at 7am and Seniors will practice Friday at 7am.
10. The Brant County OPP has a great opportunity for some of our students grade 10 and older to apply! They are running a Citizen Youth Academy from January to March. The Academy meets on Wednesdays from 7 – 9 PM and topics covered include K-9 unit, tactical response, forensics, collision reconstruction, etc. Applications are in Student Services and due by Dec 6th. Please see Ms. Martello in Student Services for more information and an application form!

3. Hey Hey Homerooms! Listen up y’all! The next Pennies from Heaven classroom collection will happen this TODAY. The Social Justice students will be coming around to each class to collect the containers of money every Friday until Dec 6th. Teachers, please excuse the interruption to your class time as we hope this will only take a few minutes. Remember, we will count the money and record it for you!

8.The senior boys basketball team added another win to their standings last night, beating PJ 84-25. It was a quick start from the lions securing the lead and denying PJ in the paint. Shout outs go to Andrew and Hilton who led scoring and for putting up a total of 35 points. Come out and support the boys on Tuesday as they play BCI. Juniors play at 4 and seniors at 5:30.
