Morning Announcements

Attention Lions!!!  The We Scare Hunger Meeting is TODAY during both lunches in the Lecture Hall.  Come on out and learn about this awesome ACS tradition.

Our first Book Club meeting is TODAY during both lunches in the Library's Innovation lab. Bring your lunch.

Board Game Club will be meeting on Wednesday October 4th in the Library at 3pm.  All are welcome to join.

Just a reminder that all other interested applicants for "Footloose" stage crew must email Mrs. Ratelband requesting the questions. Once the questions are received, please answer and respond by Thursday, Oct. 5th. 

Attention students interested in the ACS swim team. Practices begin this Thursday after school at the Wayne Gretzky Centre. Please see Ms. Ristov for a permission form if you have not done so already. See you at the pool!

Mathematics Club and contest prep will begin Thursday October 5th in the Library from 3-4pm. Please let Mr. Stec or Mr. Hare know if you are able to attend.

Anyone interested in joining the Library Advisory Council this year are welcome to come to the first meeting this Thursday before school at 8:15am in the Innovation Lab. If you cannot get here at that time, no problem, come when you can, or see Mrs. Engell. The LAC is a great club to meet new people, promote all things library, and to just have fun. The Homecoming dance is fast approaching on Thursday October 12th. Ticket sales begin this week and can be purchased on school cash online starting Wednesday. Ensure you get your tickets early as this event is likely to sell out. A reminder that guest tickets will be sold at the back of the cafeteria until Monday only. Completed guest forms are still available in the main office and must be filled out completely before a ticket will be sold. Only one guest per ACS student is allowed, and they must be enrolled in high school.

The Brant County Health Unit will be resuming the program HEROS (Health Educators Reaching Other Students) beginning Tuesday, October 10. HEROS is geared towards high school students aged 13-18. The program's primary focus is to have fun while learning about and promoting messages on Healthy living and tobacco and substance prevention. Students can gain volunteer hours and receive a letter of reference after the program. Any interested students, please feel free to come to the office to pick up a flyer.

CWAYC is proud inform you about an exciting opportunity that is available to all ACS students.  The Forum for Young Canadians is hosting the My Canada Project.  Students between the ages of 14 and 18 are being asked to answer the question “What does Canada mean to you?”  My Canada Project entries can be submitted in any format that can be uploaded, such as: a poem, an essay, a speech, a song, a video, a photo, artwork or other.  Projects can be submitted IN ANY LANGUAGE.  What does Canada inspire in you?  How can we grow?  What hope and vision do you hold for Canada’s future? Projects must be handed into the My Canada Project website at mycanada.forum.ca by October 13th.  For further details, see the CWAYC bulletin board outside student services or email Mrs. Flanagan.

Practices for the girl's rugby team will begin on Thursday, October 5th, in preparation for the Spooky Sevens rugby tournament. Practices will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15-4:30 for the month of October. You must have been a member of the ACS girl's rugby team last year to attend the Spooky Sevens tournament. For those girls new to rugby, tryouts for the team will begin in second semester.  Permission forms can be picked up outside of Room 3010.

A reminder that spirit wear orders can be picked up in the student council office every day on both lunches. We have lots of unclaimed orders waiting to be picked up, and a new order just arrived! Currently order numbers 0-616 are available for pick up. See the sign on the council door daily for updated arrivals.

Parking passes for the year are now in the office.  If you have registered your vehicle, please come pick yours up.  If you still need to register your vehicle, please do so in the office and obtain your parking pass.  You have until Friday, October 6 to register your vehicle.  After Thanksgiving weekend, Administration will be issuing warnings to unregistered vehicles.

Attention students interested in joining the ACS swim team! If you missed us at Club Fest, there is a sign-up sheet posted outside of TLC. You do not have to be a competitive swimmer to join! Information sessions will be hosted TODAY during first lunch and right after school in room 3007. Please see Ms. Ristov for more details.

There is a meeting for the 180 Team TODAY on both lunchtimes in the chapel. Bring your lunch and you are welcome to bring a friend, too. The meetings will begin 10 minutes after the lunch bells ring.  Tomorrow is mandatory training for retreat leaders in the chapel on both lunch times.

Just a reminder that the Latino Club will be meeting in Room 1034 on Friday mornings from 8:15am until 8:40am. We will begin this coming Friday, September 29th. Don't worry if you can't make it right at 8:15am prompt. Drop by to discuss how you're doing, listen to music and have a conversation in Portuguese, Spanish and English. If you have any questions, contact Mr. Bender.

Lions!!!  Are you interested in being part of one of the biggest events in our ACS tradition and help the community at the same time.  Come out to the meeting on October 2nd in the lecture hall during your lunch to learn about the We Scare Hunger Event, that is happening here on October 27th.  This event is the is an awesome opportunity to help fill the cupboards at the St. Vincente de Paul, and it is a fun night here at the school where you will work with a team to collect canned food donations from all over west brant.  We pick up the items, sort them and box them. You may even choose to dress up in a Halloween costume and maybe win a prize!  You also will earn 10 hours of community service if you participate in the event and the meetings! So be sure to mark your calendars for junior and senior lunch time, in the lecture hall, on October 2nd and we explain the whole event to you then!

Then the ACS Jack.Org Chapter is for you!   THE ACS Jack.Org Chapter is Assumption's Mental Health Awareness Team that meets on Fridays. The chapter takes lead on mental health initiatives, anti-bullying week, social media campaigns, and various initiatives on a local and national level. The ACS Chapter has a reputation as one of the leading high school chapters in Canada. The first meeting will take place on Friday October 13, 2023, at 3:05 PM. Attention all CWAYC members.  Our first meeting will take place TODAY in the Lecture Hall.  During first lunch, the meeting will run from 11:40am to 12:00pm.  During second lunch, the meeting will run from 1:00pm to 1:20pm.  All those in attendance will earn one point.

Could the players on the Boys and Girls Golf Teams come to Room 1087 at the end of the day for a very brief meeting. Good luck tomorrow at the district qualifier.

Attention all students signed up - or interested in joining - the Environment Club.  Please join us at our first meeting TODAY, right after school, in Room 3024. It's all hands-on deck as we need to prep the school to begin our paper recycling program!  If you are unable to attend but would still like to join the Environment club, email Ms. Walsh.

Attention all you singers out there! Vocal Ensemble is starting up TODAY. Even if you didn't sign up on club fest day, all are welcome! It's not too late to join! All grades, all experiences - come on out from 3 to 4pm in the music Room1154. See Mrs. Ratelband for more information and if you cannot make the first rehearsal.

There will be a Boys Baseball practice TODAY from 3:30-5:30 pm at Bill Little Park.  Please let Mrs. Lytle or Miss Robitaille know if you cannot attend.

Attention grade 11 and 12 students interested in earning a Specialist High Skills Major. There will be a very important meeting on Wednesday at lunch in the Lecture Hall. Please plan to attend for the first 20 minutes of your lunch to get all necessary information. A SHSM is a great opportunity, come a find out all about! 

The first meeting of the year for the 180 Team will be this Thursday. All those who have signed up should go to the chapel on the second floor at the beginning of your scheduled lunchtime. The meeting for students in grades 9 & 11 begins at 11:40 and the meeting for grades 10 & 12 begins at 1:00. If you didn't sign up that's okay. New members are always welcome to join the 180 Team. Bring your lunch with you and bring a friend if you would like to.

Hey Lions! Our Homecoming Dance is coming up on Thursday, October 12th. Ticket sales will begin next week, but NOW is the time to pick up guest forms if you plan on bringing a friend from another school. A reminder for new students: there is a limit of one guest per ACS student, and they must be enrolled in high school. Guest permission forms can be picked up in the main office and must be completed BEFORE a ticket can be purchased for them.

If you're interested in seeing this play about gossip and the fallout, pick up a permission form outside of Room 1008 today.

Lions, we are MORE than impressed at the turnout for auditions for ACS's musical: "Footloose"! The FINAL CAST LIST is posted outside the drama room door. Please email Mrs. Boschman if you DO NOT accept your role in the musical. The first REHEARSAL is on Monday, Sept. 25th from 3-5p.m. in the drama room. Only the cast is asked to attend. 

The position of Stage Manager and Props Manager will be interviewed next week Wednesday, Sept. 27th. Sign up for an interview time on the bulletin board outside the drama room. In addition, there is a POTENTIAL list of crew members based on what you said in your form during auditions. A final process is needed before crew is chosen. Please listen for announcements in October about props creation, set painting and crew.
