Friday November 22, 2024

1.   Hey Homerooms! Listen up! The Pennies from Heaven classroom collection will happen this TODAY. The Social Justice students will be coming around to each class to collect the containers of money every Friday until Dec 6th. Teachers, please excuse the interruption to your class time as we hope this will only take a few minutes. Remember, we will count the money and record it for you! 

2.   Lions, have you noticed the Christmas tree on the second floor near the chapel? This beautiful Christmas tree is called the TREE OF HOPE! We set this tree up every year to help with our Pennies from Heaven Campaign. As you can see, the tree is filled with ornaments that have a gift card request written on them. If you feel that you can help one of our school families with one of these generous gift card donations, please remove the tag from the tree, buy the gift card, and return them together to the main office. Every gift card collected will go to the families that we support through our Pennies From Heaven Campaign. Thank you for your support!...and MERRY CHRISTMAS! 

3.   Are you interested in creating lasting memories, develop creative skills, and collaborate with friends all while capturing the essence of the school year! Then the Yearbook Club is for you! The first meeting of the school year will be on Tuesday November 26th after school! New and past members are welcome! 

4.   Guest forms are now available for this year’s semi-formal dance. They can be picked up in the main office. A reminder that guest forms must be completed in full before a ticket may be purchased. There will only be a limited number of tickets available for outside guests for this event, so ensure you get yours early to avoid disappointment. Ticket sales start on Nov 27th. 

5.   Attention all ACS Arts students! Do you dream of going to New York City? Of seeing world famous artwork? Of strolling through Central Park? Of watching a Broadway show? Well, your dreams can come true! See Ms. Benoit in room 2015 to get an information package for the 2026 Arts trip to New York City! A meeting will be held in the lecture hall on December 12 at 7PM. Come out and bring your parents to learn more! 

6.   Attention Indigenous Students! Post-Secondary Information representatives will be at ACS on Monday November 25th. You will be called down to the cafeteria for this event to learn more about post secondary including : schools, programs, scholarships, sports, clubs, housing and more. 

7.  Attention Jack Chapter Members!    There will be a brief and mandatory meeting today after school at 3:10 PM in the lecture hall.   If you are unable to attend, please reach out to one of the Dabrowski sisters.    Thank you, and have a mentally healthy day.

8.   Today's special in the servery will be Tex Mex fries loaded with cheese sauce, salsa, sour cream and green onions for $7.75.  Also available today is Warm nachos topped with cheese sauce for $4.99 .  They are in finally -for now - cups are here so we have the jet juice available for $1.90.

Wednesday November 20, 2024  

1.   The annual Academic Awards Celebration is just one week away!  Award winners are reminded to review the details in the invitation and that the Q&A posters remain posted outside of the Main Office, the Library, and Student Services.  We look forward to celebrating with you on Nov. 27th  

2.   LEAPers, tonight by 11: 59 PM, is the deadline for your November Writing contest submission.

7.   The GSA is meeting today in portable 15 during grade 10 lunch, Student Services during grade 9 lunch, and in 1141 during senior lunch.

9.   Graduates, there is an important grad meeting, during period 1, on both this coming Thursday and Friday, in the cafe.  You will be coming down with your period 1 teacher.  If you are not in a grade 12 period 1 class, you will be receiving a guidance appointment slip, indicating which day you are to attend.   

10.  Attention Math and STEM enthusiasts! Today is the last day to sign up for this week’s guest speaker.  This Thursday we’re hosting Dr. Sachin Kotecha, an Assistant Professor from the University of Waterloo's Faculty of Mathematics. 
There will be two sessions in the lecture hall: Grade 9 and 10 session at 11:50 - 12:50  and Grade 11 and 12 session at 1:00  - 2:00. 
If you are interested, pick up a slip on the third floor in room 3005.  Please ensure you share this with your teacher to ensure you stay caught up on missed material.   If you have any questions, please see or email Mr. Stec. 

Tuesday November 12, 2024      

1.   The first try out for Senior Girls Volleyball will be on Thursday at 3:00. Please scan the QR Code and bring a signed permission form with you. 

2.   ACS Knit Club. Meeting this week has been postponed. See you the following Wed Nov 20th same time and place. Thank you for all you do, Mrs. Cameron 

3.   Dress down day is tomorrow Lions. Please remember your $2 donation. This months collections will go towards Pennies From Heaven. There will be bracelets, so please bring in your money. Teachers, as usual, your envelope will be dropped off to you in period 1, but please send a trusted student to the office with it, or drop it off on Prep. A special thank you to Mrs. Flewelling and Mrs. Tarrington in the main office who help us count all of this cash! 

4.  Super important REMINDER!!! Thursday is Marketplace! Teachers thank you for participating. This is such an integral part of our school tradition, as all monies raised will go towards Pennies From Heaven. Remember lions, there will be so much food, beautiful art, delicious candies, amazing crafts and awesome games. Please, please, please remember to bring some cash with you for THURSDAY! 

5.   Goos fries and homemade jollof will be sold for $2 a plate on Thursday at marketplace.  There will also be an amazing jewelry table with necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings, brooches and watches.  Get great gifts for family and friends Nothing over $5.00.  Bring cash. 

6.    Want to have beautiful nails and support a charitable cause? Pop into 1004 at junior lunch to get your nails painted for a suggested $2 donation. All proceeds go to Pennies from Heaven? Hope to see you there: Mrs. Cameron.

7.    Wednesday is the last day to submit Model United Nations application forms to the quake bulletin board.  There will be a mandatory meeting for all applicants Wednesday, at lunch, in the lecture hall. 

8.   The 180 Team is meeting this Thursday on the lunchtimes in the chapel.  

9.   What makes a better gift than a new book and gives back to your school library at the same time? A book fair! That’s what! The library and Beach Reads bookstore have teamed up to bring you the first ever online book fair! 20% of all purchases go right back to our school library. Visit beachreads.ca/lions or see a librarian for more details. The online book fair runs until Nov. 28th. Check out some of the books here in our own library. Happy book shopping, Lions!

11.  Want a free 3-month YMCA gym membership? Sign up for the Y.E.S. program through the YMCA. Sessions run each Tuesday starting November 12- December 19 from 4-6. They provide bus passes, snacks, and community hours while you have fun and make connections with community members and learn about important topics like human trafficking and gang awareness. For registration info see the school website or visit TLC. Today is the last day to register. 

12.  A reminder that Model UN applications are due on Wednesday to the CWAYC bulletin board.  There will also be a mandatory meeting for all applicants on Wednesday at lunch in the lecture hall. 

13.  The first junior girls volleyball try out will be today at 3:00. Please make sure you scan the QR code to sign up and bring a signed permission form with you. 

14.  The Community Living Class and Environment Club wish to thank Assumption staff and students for continuing to keep their classroom Paper Recycling bins free of ANY other material besides paper! Keep up the great work Lions! 

15.  The Environment Club will be meeting next Tuesday November 19th, at 3pm in Room 3024. Any current or new members are welcome to join! We will be discussing plans for wildflower planting, a clothing swap, and going outside for a school grounds garbage clean up. 

16.  Vocal Ensemble is meeting TONIGHT from 3-4:30 please sign up for taxi’s and book your way home for 4:30. See you then! 

17.  Math club will be postponed to next Tuesday.  Students participating in the CIMC and CSMC math contests are to meet Mr. Stec in room 3011 after school today for an information and optional practice session.

19.  Today's special in the servery will be Popcorn chicken mashed potato bowl topped with corn, mozzarella cheese and popcorn chicken and gravy for $7.00.  Also available today will be popcorn chicken and fries for $7.50 and popcorn chicken poutine for $7.00.  Unfortunately, we are unable to source the cups needed for the jet juice - so until we are able to supply the cups, we won't have any available.

1.   Tonight’s the big night! The Library Advisory Council, L.A.C., is hosting a science fiction movie and trivia night on Friday, November 8th. We will be watching the movie Dune from 3-7 PM. The cost for the tickets are $5 and will be sold at the back of the caf during lunch today. Tickets will not be sold at the door. Pizza and a drink are included with your ticket. Come find out which is better, the book or the movie. 

2.   Attention Cadets, Scouts, and Guides—you are invited to wear your uniforms on Monday as we celebrate Remembrance Day.  Please sign-up today on the windows outside of the Main Office if you have not already done so. 

3.   Want a free 3-month YMCA gym membership? Sign up for the Y.E.S. program through the YMCA. Sessions run each Tuesday starting November 12- December 19 from 4-6. 4.   Attention grade 9 math students.  We are offering extra help in the library after school for grade 9’s on both Mondays and Thursdays.  Come on out right after school and get all your math questions answered. 

5.   Religion Study hall for grades 9-10 is held every Tuesday/Thursday in room 1004 run by Mrs. Cameron. Bring your lunch and come to get some help if needed. Email Mrs. Cameron with any questions.  
 
6.   Attention ACS Jack Chapter Members!     Join us tonight at 3:10 PM in the Lecture Hall for an important meeting! We’ll be recording one of our main videos of the year, so please be on time and come dressed in uniform or spirit wear.

7.   Lions, on Monday each student will be given a poppy. We are asking you to remember to bring in some money for a donation for the poppy. The money collected helps to support the armed forces community in many areas, such as mobility, housing and mental health. Teachers, the poppies will be delivered to you in period 1, please distribute them and return the left-over poppies and envelope of donations to the main office at any point on Monday. 

8.   Attention boys' varsity hockey players. The first round of cuts has been posted outside the boys Phys-Ed office. Tryouts will continue on Monday, 3pm at Lions Park. See you on the ice. 

9.   Today's special in the servery today will be Cheeseburger and fries topped with your choice of onions, pickles and tomatoes for $7.00.   We also have onion rings for $4.25.   Popcorn chicken and fries for $7.50.    Also, please remember to grab your utensils, condiments etc etc from where you purchased or brought your food from PLEASE.  I do not like denying students these things, but I am running a business and these items cost my business money which I am held accountable for. 

SPORTS:  

1.   The junior and senior girls' basketball teams are in need of your support! Tonight at 5 and 7pm, our lady lions will be playing in the city championships at SJC! Come out and support ACS! Wear your spirit wear, bring signs and cheer loud and proud. $3 for students and $5 for adults. Let’s GO LIONS!
