Wednesday, November 16th, 2022

Important reminder Lions that today is Amplify Your Culture.  If you are a participating member, please go to the cafeteria at 1:30pm with your posters and anything else needed to set up.

The GSA will be meeting in Room 1035 during first lunch instead of the Drama Room. During second lunch, the GSA will also be meeting in Room 1035 today. 

The Board Game Club is meeting again this Thursday in the Library Reading Room after school until 5pm.  Students are not required to stay the entire time.

This is a reminder for the boy's hockey team. Please make sure you check your email for important roster and schedule information.  We practice today at 3pm at Lions Park, teacher please dismiss players at 2:15pm. An updated player list has been sent out to the staff.

If you are interested in participating in the French trip in February and you have questions, please see Mme. Rodger in the foods room or any French teacher!  Can't wait to travel again!

Tickets can be purchased in advance on school cash online for $8, or at the door for $10. Coffee House performers, please meet in the drama room no later than 5pm in order to set up and do a sound check. 

Hey Lions! Student Council is happy to announce that this year's Semi Formal Dance will be taking place on Friday, December 2nd from 7-10pm. Based on your votes, the theme will be "Winter in NYC"! Tickets for ACS students will be sold for $15 on School Cash Online starting November 21st (next Monday). Only 500 tickets will be sold and it is FIRST COME FIRST SERVE, so make sure to get your early! Guest tickets will be sold from November 21st to November 25th ONLY at the back of the cafeteria. New for this event, guest permission forms MUST be picked up and filled out BEFORE a guest ticket can be purchased. Permission forms can be picked up in the main office starting TODAY. A reminder that only one guest is permitted per ACS student, and that student must be currently enrolled in high school. Looking forward to a great event!

The Library is making room for new books. A number of books are for sale and located on a cart outside of the Library doors. All the books on the cart are only $1 and all proceeds go to Pennies for Heaven. The cart will be updated frequently so check back each day. We have everything from non-fiction to manga for sale. All monies can be given to Mrs. Engell or Mrs. Santos. Happy reading!

Attention all members of the Girls Hockey Team. Please come to the gym for a very important meeting at the very beginning of your lunch today. 

Junior Boys basketball tryouts will be held on TODAY at 4:30pm and Thursday November 17th at 5pm.  There is a sign up sheet posted outside the male Phys. Ed office for any students wishing to try out.  If you have any questions, please see Mr. P, Mr. Dyjack, or Ms. Cassano prior to these try-out dates. 

Guelph University Science Communications students are looking to connect with Assumption students as part of their program. Today, from 1:00pm to 2:20pm in the Lecture Hall, a variety of short 10 minute topics will be delivered entirely by 3rd year physics undergraduate students.  Topics include the physics of a ski jump, how to catch a fly ball, biking with wind, and many more.  STEM students must have permission from their teachers in order to attend.  

A reminder of the information meeting taking place TODAY for the French trip happening in February.  First lunch in the Foods Room 2078 and second lunch in Room 2060.  If you took extended French last year, if you are in Grade 10 French this year or will be taking it next semester OR if you took grade 10 French last year or the year before - YOU ARE ELIGIBLE for the trip!  See you at lunch!

Students, the day is almost here!!!!!! This Wednesday, Nov 16, during period 4, the amazing and awesome Amplify Your Culture Event is happening here at ACS.  It is also a dress down day so, we encourage you to show your pride in your culture and throw on a jersey of traditional clothing that represents who you are!  Your classes will be called down, so please only join us if you are with your class. An important STEM information meeting is being held today, during both lunches in the Lecture Hall. There will be a couple of new announcements and sign ups for upcoming events. Don't miss out.

Attention to all Sr. Boys interested in trying out for the Sr. Boys Basketball team.  The first try-out will be held TODAY at 3pm and the second on Wednesday Nov. 16 at 3pm.  Junior Boys basketball tryouts will be held on Tuesday Nov. 15th at 4.30pm and Thursday November 17th at 5pm.  There is a sign up sheet posted outside the male Phys. Attention, Teachers!  This is a friendly reminder that the Postcards for Peace for each PERIOD 2 CLASS have been placed in teacher mailboxes.  Please ensure you have picked this up for your class to participate in our Remembrance Day celebration tomorrow.  

Attention, Cadets!  A.C.S. will be commemorating Remembrance Day tomorrow and you are encouraged to replace your school uniform with your military one.  Please ensure you have signed up on the posted list outside of the Main Office by end of day so we know you will be participating.

Tonight is the night!  Our annual Academic Awards Celebration has finally arrived!   Academic Award Winners—please ensure you and your guests have reviewed the details in the invitation E-mail prior to arriving at the school this evening.  You will be entering and exiting the building from the Student Parking Lot, and we wish everyone’s experience to be as wonderful as possible, especially due to the size of this exciting event!  Please follow the signs and speak to our greeters if you need additional support or have questions upon arrival.  We look forward to celebrating with you and your families this evening!

The program's primary focus is to have fun while learning about and promoting messages on healthy living and tobacco and substance prevention. Students can gain volunteer hours and receive a letter of reference after the program.  Please see Ms. Coene in Student Services for more information.

Attention ACS!  High school students are wanted to help make a difference in your future.  The campaign “I matter, you matter, we matter” is underway.  This campaign is geared towards changing negativity to positivity by using inspirational sayings on buttons and magnets.  Please see the poster on the Volunteer Board outside of Student Services for more information.

The presentation will occur TODAY in the Lecture Hall at 9:00am.  No sign up necessary!  Just report to the Lecture Hall TODAY at 9:00 am. Attendance will be taken at the beginning of the workshop and shared with classroom teachers. 

The Board Game Club's First Meeting will be in the Library this Thursday November 3rd from 3pm until 5pm.  Please join us for fun and games.

Listen up all students of French!!  ECOUTEZ!!!  If you are taking French semester 1 or 2, this announcement is for you!  You are all invited to attend a special guest presentation on Tuesday, November 8th during Period 1 in the front half of the cafeteria.  You MUST get your period 1 teacher's permission to attend.  See a French teacher for a permission slip before this Friday.  Don't miss out on this French, musical and interactive presentation!

Thank you to all the students who bought books or stickers from the Library table at the Pennies for Heaven Marketplace. Many students also bought tickets for the manga prize raffle. The winner of the raffle prize receives manga posters, stickers, activity books, and manga boxes. The winner is............Matthew Wilson! Congratulations Matthew! Buying all those tickets paid off. You can come down to the library at lunch for your prize.

Listen up Lions!  The Brant County Health Unit is starting up the program HEROS (Health Educators Reaching Other Students).  This program is geared towards high school students aged 13-18. The program's primary focus is to have fun while learning about and promoting messages on Healthy living and tobacco and substance prevention. Students can gain volunteer hours and receive a letter of reference after the program.  Please see Ms. Coene in Student Services for More information.

Attention ACS!  High school students are wanted to help make a difference in your future.  The campaign “I matter, you matter, we matter” is underway.  This campaign is geared towards changing negativity to positivity by using inspirational sayings on buttons and magnets.  Please see the poster outside of Student Services for more information.
