Attention Lions! Quad 2 student timetables will be emailed to your student board account and to your parents email account on file.  There have been several changes to student timetables so please make sure you open this email before the beginning of Quad 2 next Monday.

Attention Potential 2022 Graduates:  There will be an important virtual informational meeting at 9AM in your Quad 2 class on Wednesday Nov. 17th.  You will also be registering for grad at that time.  Grad fees will be due from Nov. 17th to Dec. 3.  All will be explained at that meeting.  Co-op students will be in the lecture hall and grade 12 students not in a morning grade 12 class will be in the cafe for this virtual meeting. 

ave you ever wondered, what is the poppy campaign for that leads up to Remembrance Day?  All of the donations collected for the poppy fund go directly to support our Canadian Veterans and their families within our own community locally and to help ensure Canadians ‘never forget’ the sacrifices they made for us. Every student in our school will receive a poppy on Thursday morning. Students are encouraged to bring in a looney or twoonie on Thursday as a donation for your poppy.

Are you stressed?  Feeling overwhelmed?  Well, believe it or not, singing can help!  Come to Vocal Ensemble on Tuesday, Nov. 9th from 3-4pm and regain your energy as you prepare for your culminating activities and exams!  Hope to see you there Lions!

Attention all curlers and want to be curlers. Ever thought of trying the great sport of curling? Dream of making that takeout or the perfect draw to the button to win the game? Time to make those dreams a reality!!! Assumption's curling teams, both girls and boys are looking for players. The sign-up sheet and permission forms are located just outside of Mr. Page's room, 3005. Get your forms in soon. Tryouts begin next week!

Come on out Wednesday November 17th at 6:30 pm and see all the talent our school has to offer. Open to students and staff of the ACS community. Tickets will be sold for $8 in advance starting next Monday or for $10 at the door. Hope to see you there Lions! Performers, please remember to finalize details of your performance with Mrs Ristov by the end of this week.

Attention students applying for scholarships and bursaries:  if you require an adult to write a letter of reference for you OR to fill in an application, it is respectful to ask for it at least 2 weeks in advance so you can receive a well done, thoughtful letter of reference.  Please also provide the adult with a list of all your extra-curricular activities here at school and in the community, along with dates, timelines and your role in those activities. 

Graduating students- are you thinking of applying to post-secondary schools outside of Ontario or outside of Canada?  The ACS Student Services team recommends you research now to determine due dates for applying to their schools.  They may require entrance exams, documentation from ACS, letters of reference, etc so don't compromise your chances of admission by missing due dates or scrambling at the last minute. 

A reminder to all students-  if you need to talk to your guidance counsellor, please come to Student Services and sign up in your counsellor's book in to make an appointment.

On Friday we had the last grade 9 retreat for this quad. A shout out to all of the more than 40 students who gave of their time to be retreat leaders and help make these retreats a great experience for our grade 9 students. Thank you for a job well done.

Are you having trouble reading and writing in class? You’re not alone. More than 1 million children in Canada are currently reading and writing below their grade-level. To help more kids feel comfortable at school, let’s share our resources by donating our old books to the donation box outside the library. Children’s stories, novels, biographies, comics, and all other books are welcome! If you are personally in need of reading, or writing support, try ACS' Prefect services, or contact the library!

This is one final reminder to classes participating in this year’s Postcards for Peace campaign.  Please return your package of completed messages to the baskets in the Main Office by the end of the day TODAY so they can be distributed to our heroic recipients by Remembrance Day. This is also the last call for any Staff and students who wish to stop by the Library for a chance to share in our message campaign.  Postcards will be available over the lunches for you to stop in and pen your own message of thanks and support.  Bring a pen and bring a friend!  Remembrance is a responsibility that we all share!

The ACS Jack.Org Chapter will have their official Welcome Meeting TODAY after school in the lecture hall. ATTENTION LIONS! Did you know that 42% of Canadian adults are currently failing basic literacy tests? This means that almost half of Canada can’t read, write, or speak well enough to excel in the future. To help remediate this issue, bring any spare books you have to the donation box outside the library. Your donations will help struggling kids practice their literacy skills, to create a smarter Canada for the future!

Attention all girls interested in trying out for the girls ice hockey team.  Tryout dates and times are posted outside the female phys. ed. office.  Please sign up and pick up a permission form.  The first tryout is Nov. 9 at 3:30 at Lions Park Arena. 

The boys leadership group will be meeting in the Reading Room of the Library at 11:30am. Students who are interested in joining can come to the meeting to find out the “why” and “what” the group is doing this year.

The meeting of the GSA or Gay Straight Alliance has been postponed this week. We will meet tomorrow in the Lecture Hall during Grade 9 lunch.

Does learning a Second language seem impossible? It’s easy when you hear it every day.  The government of Canada is offering free opportunities for students to have an exchange experience in French.  Come to the lecture hall on your lunch next Monday, November 8 to learn about the possibilities.

Sessions take place weekly from mid-November until early April, Monday Tuesday or Wednesdays 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Set yourself apart from the competition, sharpen your skills and develop an edge that employers are looking for. Our WE SCARE HUNGER Campaign is going on this week. If our school can collect 3,300 canned good for the SSVP, students will be awarded an additional Casual Dress Day on Friday, October 29th. Let's go Lions! Bring in a canned good and scare hunger away!

The first Grade 11 OSSLT Prep Lunch Session will be held today in the lecture hall at 12:50pm. Please arrive on time. There are several lunch sessions planned and Grade 11s can sign up on the OSSLT Brightspace page.

ATTENTION LIONS! Do you have any spare books stashed around your house? This year, ACS is having a book drive. Bring your novels, children’s stories, comic books, and anything else you can think of, to the donation box located right outside the library! Your donations will be given to those who lack the financial resources to buy books, so that more people can practice reading and writing. This Friday, October 29th, the Brant County Health Unit will be hosting a second COVID vaccination clinic from 9:30am to 10:30am in the front of the cafeteria.  Only students that submit a parent consent form will be allowed to get their vaccination.  Consent forms have been sent out electronically to our ACS families. Consent forms are due to the main office by Thursday.

Are you planning to apply to University of Toronto next year and have excellent grades?  The U of T National Scholarship application is due in November.  See the Scholarship Chart in your Gr 12 D2L page for details. 
 
Are you planning to apply to Queen's University next year, have over 90% average and leadership experience?  If you would like to be one of our 2 nominees for the Queen's Chancellor Scholarship, sign up for an interview in Student Services by noon Friday. Interviews will be next week and you will be contacted with details about your interview.

Are you a community leader with over 75% average, attending post-secondary in Fall 2022 and a community leader? The TD Bank Scholarship for Community Leadership is up to $17,500/yr. The application can be found on your Gr 12 D2L page and is due by November 15th.

In honour of this very inspirational man, we are starting an Instagram challenge. Please share our Library Instagram post and tag @therock to hopefully get Dwayne Johnson’s attention. The Library username is @assumption_library. Did you know the Rock is Canadian? Stop in and ask one of your Library Staff today and while you’re in the Library check out one of the many Dwayne Johnson biographies on display.

CWAYC (QUAKE) IS EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THE THANK A VET SPEECH WRITING COMPETITION.  WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO THANK AND HONOUR A CANADIAN VETERAN?  RESPONSES SHOULD BE APPROXIMATELY 500 WORDS IN LENGTH AND CAN BE HANDED IN TO THE BASKET IN THE MAIN OFFICE.  ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED UNTIL FRIDAY OCTOBER 29TH.  WINNERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED DURING VETERANS' WEEK.  THERE WILL BE PRIZES FOR FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD PLACE.  IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, PLEASE SEE MRS. COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS can be submitted to student services once you have recorded the minimum number of hours and have it signed by a parent/guardian. Remember, you don't need signatures of supervisors, just their name and contact information so we can confirm the hours.
