Morning Announcements

A reminder to all Boys Lacrosse players.  Practice is TODAY after school.  Attendance is mandatory as the next set of games are on Monday, May 16th at McKinnon Park. 

There will be an ACE meeting today in the library Reading Room at first lunch. New members welcome!

Attention members of the boys' baseball team. We will playing in a mini tournament in Ancaster at Matt Krol Field on Tuesday May 17. Players need to be at the diamond by 8 am on Tuesday. If any players needs a ride to Ancaster, he should speak to Mr. Annear to make transportation arrangements. The updated schedule is posted on the team page in Brightspace. Players are also reminded to come to portable 1 in the morning to pick up your t shirt and ball cap if they have not done so already. 

Hey Lions!  Next week is Spirit Week.  We have the following themed days planned:

Monday – Sunglasses and Hat with full uniform
Tuesday – Floral / Hawaiian Shirt Day
Wednesday – Jersey day with uniform bottoms
Thursday – Pastel and fluorescent top day with uniform bottoms
Friday – Full Spirit Wear Day

Glow dance is this Thursday Lions! A few reminders to keep in mind before the big day:  
-Advance ticket sales will continue online until Wednesday night, and in person until Thursday lunch. A reminder that tickets at the door will be increased to $14 and are available to ACS students only.
-On the night of the dance, please remember to bring your ticket, your ACS student card, your empty water bottle, and to dress in bright or white! Outfits should follow regular school dress-down guidelines. If it can’t be worn to school, it can’t be worn to the dance! 
-Doors open at 6pm on Thursday. Please remember that lockers will not be accessible during the dance. Coat-check will be available. Looking forward to seeing you there! 

Paris District high school is hosting a Rainbow Ball for members of the LGBTQ2S+ community and their allies. Thursday, May 19th from 7-10 pm. Transportation to and from this event Paris will be provided and running from ACS. The cost is $10 to be paid through School cash online. Interested students must pick up a permission form in Student Services TODAY. The deadline to return your permission forms to attend is tomorrow.  

Hello Gr 12 Students!  We will start selling Prom tickets TODAY until the 19th of May.   There is a limited number of tickets available.  Prom will be held on Saturday, June 4th at Hamilton's Marquis Gardens. We will start selling tickets at the back of the cafe, near the library, during second lunch only.  You can pay for your $60 ticket either with cash or ahead of time with School Cash Online.  In order to use the online payment option, please bring your receipt to our ticket selling table to pick up your physical ticket.  If you have any questions, please see Ms. Braga or Ms. Martello.  

Attention all athletes and coaches, you don't want to miss this!! The Annual ACS Athletic Banquet is back! This is a special night where we honour our athletes, MVP's and Athletes of the Year. It takes place on Wednesday June 8th in our cafeteria. Dinner is provided and catered by Mercasa and there are many door prizes to be won! Doors open at 6pm. Tickets are available for $20 in the female phys. ed. office. Get your ticket before they sell out!

The lunch special in the cafeteria today Thursday May 12th Pulled pork.  Try it as a sandwich or a poutine just $5.50. 

Grade 12 students are reminded that two NEW STEM scholarships are due this weekend.  
-The ACS Alumni STEM scholarship Google forms application can be found on the Scholarship chart on your Gr 12 Guide page and is due by midnight Sunday.
-The James Robert Lefler Memorial scholarship application for STEM students is also found on the D2L page and is due by midnight Monday to the dropbox found under Assignments. 

Attention Vocal Ensemble - this is a reminder that tonight's rehearsal is from 3-4:30.  Please see Mrs. Ratelband if this is an issue.

2. Did you know you are only 7 weeks away from final exams- 6 weeks for grade 12 students?? Now is the time to ask your teacher if you have any missed work to catch up on, do the work, get it handed in plus ensure that you have completed all assigned homework.  Remember to turn your phone off for a couple of hours every day and focus on your courses uninterrupted. You're coming up to the final stretch Lions-  "Dreams don't work unless you do work!"

As part of a social justice initiative we are asking all Lions to come out and Support the Six Nations Youth Lodge TODAY by dropping by the cafeteria during the Grade 9 and 11 lunch to purchase hand made beaded bracelets for $4 each. All monies will go towards making backpacks for the kids at the Lodge.

ACS student council has some very exciting news to share! After nearly two years we are finally able to host a school dance. Glow dance will be taking place on Thursday, May 12th from 6-9pm. Advance tickets are $7 each and can be purchased on school cash online or in person every day at lunch in the cafeteria. If payment is made online, please bring your receipt to the table in the cafeteria to receive your ticket. Guest tickets must be purchased in person, and the final day to sign in guests will be Monday, May 9th. Limited tickets for ACS students may be sold at the door for $14, but we are expecting this to be a popular event so get your tickets early if you want to avoid disappointment!

Hey Lions, don't know what to get your mom for Mother's Day this year? Don't worry, the social justice team has you covered. From May 4th- May 6th we are selling Mother's Day sweets at the back of the cafe. All the proceeds are going to Ronald McDonald house in Hamilton.  Don't forget the special females in your life this year. See you there!

The Boys Leadership Group will be meeting in the Reading Room of the library during second lunch TODAY.

The GSA is meeting in the Drama Room during 1st lunch and the Lecture Hall during 2nd lunch TODAY. 

Attention all girls trying out for the Fast Pitch Team. Due to the wet conditions, we have to cancel tonight's tryout. We will practice tomorrow after school at Lions Park. 

This is a reminder that our Knitting Club is meeting TODAY from 3:15pm-4:15pm in Portable 17. 

Congratulations to our 26 nominees. These students are the recipients of the 2022 Catholic Education Week Simba Awards. Recipients are reminded to attend a celebration tomorrow morning at 8:20am in the Lecture Hall.

May 5th has been commemorated as the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. Across the nation, we are called upon to wear red to acknowledge thousands of young women and girls who go missing each year. Student may replace their uniform tops with a red shirt on Thursday.

There will be a brief, 10-minute meeting for any students interested in trying out for Junior or Senior Girls volleyball next year. We will meet at the beginning of both lunches in the lecture hall on Thursday, May 5th.  If you aren’t able to attend the meeting in the lecture hall on May 5th, please email Mr. Bender to let him know.

This message is to all students who applied to become an ACS Prefect.  Please check your school email.  There is a mandatory meeting scheduled for all new Prefects who were successful in joining our team on Thursday May 5 in the Library over your lunch.  We look forward to meeting you soon.

Tennis season has begun again.  Junior and Senior practices will be held every day after school weather permitting.  See you there!

Attention Mock Trial.  Unfortunately, we have not yet received our new trial pieces, so we have decided to delay our next meeting until Tuesday, May 10th in the Lecture Hall.   We will keep you posted on any updates. Also, we also wanted to wish our AP Exam writers the best of luck this week!  

A small group of students from the grade 12 social justice class wants to share this amazing learning opportunity with you. This group calls themselves ‘Nova Initiative’ and designed a bulletin board filled with information about their project outside the office to help support Nova Vita. This board shares information about Nova Vita, Nova Initiative, and how you can help! Be sure to check out this board and grab a pamphlet anytime between today Monday May 2 to Friday May 6th.

The PUSHING FORWARD- TUTORING PROGRAM has begun! The program is free tutoring for students from our very own ACS teachers! The program will run from Monday - Thursday 3:05 pm - 4:05 pm. Drop by student services for more information!

Attention all females ages 14-18!  Are you interested in a career in the fire service including firefighting, dispatch, and fire prevention? CAMP PHOENIX is providing a unique opportunity for females ages 14-18 years old to experience what is it is like to be a firefighter.  You will experience hands on training in fire suppression, search and rescue, auto extrication, first aid and more! This camp is NO charge and takes place at Cainsville Station on 27 Ewart Ave on MAY 5th at 6-8pm.  Please look for flyers around the school for additional information.

The Cafeteria special for Wednesday May 4th will be Meatball Subs for $6.25.
