Attention all Track Athletes participating in the AABHN Track and Field meet Thursday and Friday.  There is an important meeting TODAY in the gym immediately following announcements.

Attention all UN delegates!  You must drop by Room 1013 TODAY to select your country, or follow the instructions in your email to select your country. The country list will be published to the D2L page tomorrow.

The GSA is meeting in Room 1035 during 1st and 2nd lunch TODAY. Don't forget that permission forms and payment for the Rainbow Ball are due today.

Attention all Visual Art SHSM students! There is a visual art trip to Toronto to visit the ROM happening on Thursday, May 25th. This is free for Visual Art SHSM students. See Ms. Benoit in the art rooms to get a permission form TODAY. There are limited spots available, and the trip is first come, first served.

This event will take place TODAY from 3-7 pm. There is a $5 fee which will go towards pizza and pop. Tickets are on sale at the back of the caf during both lunches. The Shellard Lane Association is offering various volunteer opportunities for their initiative in bringing sports events to the area.  Please see the bulletin board outside of Student Services or the Guidance D2L page for more information.

Are you an Arabic- speaking newcomer between the ages of 16-18?  McMaster University is conducting a research study called Thriving Together to learn about how young people are adjusting and what supports are necessary. Your answers are confidential. For completing the survey you will receive a $15 gift card. You will also be entered into a draw for a chance to win one of 3 gift cards worth $100. To take part, you must be16 to 18 years old, arrived in Canada after January 2015, and be from an Arabic-speaking country.  Registration info is on the bulletin board in TLC.

Attention Grade 12 students.  The school is hearing there have been glitches with the Grad Retreat online payment in the last couple of days so payment will remain open today. If you are having issues with making the payment please email Mrs. Sheldrake today or this evening to let her know. We want everyone to be able to attend who would like to. The date of the retreat is Tuesday May 23rd.

The class of 2023 was in grade 9 when Teacher Librarian Ms. Freibauer completed her final year as a faculty member at Assumption College. Ms. Freibauer supported all areas of student life including sports, academics, the football knitting club, book clubs, coffee house and much more.  Ms. Freibauer passed away in August 2022.  A Grad Award has been set up in her name.  Graduates, please see D2L for the application process.

The Book Club will be meeting TODAY. During the first lunch it will be in the Reading room and during second lunch the meeting with be in the Innovation lab. 

The Boys Baseball team will meet at 3:30pm TODAY for practice. Please note the field change to the diamond at Bill Little Park. This practice will be the only one before your game on Wednesday. Please keep a very close eye on TEAMS going forward

A reminder to all grade 12 students that the deadline to make an online payment for the grad retreat is midnight tonight. Registration and payment close tonight. If anyone requires a vegetarian option for the barbeque lunch you must email Mrs. Sheldrake today to let her know. If you have NOT handed in your signed permission form yet, you will be receiving one by email from Mrs. Sheldrake. You MUST hand in a completed permission and health form in order to attend the retreat.

For students who wish to be part of the Track and Field team, there will be a “qualifying meet” for both track events, and field events TODAY after school.  Any student that has signed up and does not attend will not be able to participate in the AABHN Track and Field meet next week. 

Teachers, please check your email for a message from the co-op department.  A number of students have appointments with a co-op teacher in either period 1 or period 2 today.  Please send these students to the co-op office at the requested times.

STEM is welcoming former Lion Nicole Vandermade back to the Den TODAY. Note the dismissal times (11:15am and 12:35pm). The topic is Kinesiology, the department in which she works at Laurier University.

Across the nation, we are called upon to wear red to acknowledge thousands of young women and girls who go missing each year. Students may replace their uniform or spirit wear tops with a red shirt on Friday.

The ACS Jack Chapter will be hosting a Mental Health and Wellness Community Resource Fair TODAY during both lunches.  The purpose of this fair is for students to become aware of mental health and well-being resources available for children, youth and families in their community.  We have 16 agencies registered to come and they will have displays and interactive booths available.  We are looking forward to this awesome event!

Coffee House is back Lions! Need an excuse to hang out with friends, eat snacks, and enjoy some great musical entertainment? Coffee House is the place to be! Come on out this Thursday, May 4th at 6pm, and see all the talent our school has to offer. Tickets are available to purchase for $8 on School Cash Online, or for $10 at the door. See you there!

Listen up Lions! Student Council is planning the Glow Dance and here are some important things you need to know.  The dance will be on Thursday May 18th from 6:00-9:00 PM. Ticket sales will start on Monday May 8th – but if you are planning on bringing a guest from another school, guest forms are available in the MAIN OFFICE now! Only one guest is allowed per student, and they must be enrolled in high school to attend. Make sure you pick up this form A.S.A.P. because your guest needs to have it filled out before they can be sold a ticket.

On Wednesday, May 3rd, the ACS Jack Chapter will be hosting a Mental Health and Wellness Community Resource Fair during both lunches.  The purpose of this fair is for students to become aware of mental health and well-being resources available for children, youth and families in their community.  We have 16 agencies registered to come and they will have displays and interactive booths available.  We are looking forward to this awesome event!

STEM is welcoming former Lion Nicole Vandermade back to the Den on Thursday, May 4th (May the Force!). Note the dismissal times (11:15am and 12:35pm). The topic is Kinesiology, the department in which she works at Laurier University.  Classes interested in attending can reach out to Mr. Page to hold a spot.

Friday, May 5th has been commemorated as the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. Across the nation, we are called upon to wear red to acknowledge thousands of young women and girls who go missing each year. Students may replace their uniform or spirit wear tops with a red shirt on Friday.

A murder mystery event. Doesn’t that sound like something to die for? The Library Advisory Council has put together this blood-chilling event just for you! This event will take place on Wed. May 10, from 3-7 pm. There is a $5 fee which will go towards pizza and pop. Tickets will start selling next week on Wednesday May 3 at the back of the caf during both lunches. Calling all Music Grads!  TWO GRAD awards for students who will be enrolled in a Canadian College or University Undergraduate Music Program or a Bachelor of Education (music) program in the 2023/2024 academic year. See D2L for info on this and all other scholarship info.

Is your goal to become a doctor?  Scholarship in Memory of James Robert Lefler.  This $1,000 scholarship is offered to a graduating student who has been accepted to a 4-year University Science Program.  The student must have the goal of becoming a medical doctor with an interest in Oncology or Cardiology.  See D2L for application.

The St. George Garden Club is pleased to call for applications for its 7th annual scholarship for post-secondary education.  This one-thousand-dollar scholarship is intended to show our interest in promoting postsecondary education in horticulture, agriculture, forestry or environmental studies. We see this scholarship as an opportunity for us to help raise awareness around the issues of the environment and its stewardship. See D2L Grad Page for details.

ACS Music Dept is proud to announce the return of Tri-High: a concert featuring the bands of Holy Trinity, ACS and St. John's College.  Each band will perform individually, and the concert will conclude with all bands playing 3 pieces together in a 100 piece 'super-band'.  The event will be at St. John's College  TONIGHT at 6:30pm.  Admission is free.  All are welcome.
