Equity and Inclusion

Introduction

Hopefully, many people in the community are aware of Assumption’s focus on the creation of a community where all feel that they belong and are engaged in their learning. In addition to events including Amplify Your Culture and Black History Month we have a very active advocacy group called ACE (Advocacy, Community and Empowerment).

ACE was formed when students voiced their concerns about the tensions and divides that were happening, overtly in other countries, and wanted to take action to ensure no members of this community feel unwelcome. ACE is comprised of students, staff and community members from a variety of cultures and have been meeting virtually since May, 2020. The group has connected with senior administration and plans to speak with our elected trustees about ACE's mission statement and proposed actions. 

ACE is in the process of administering a school community survey that will inform next steps around inclusion on many fronts and highlight some of our many strengths.
