Who Might Consider VSS Learning?

Students who have a pre-existing heath issue and need to physically distance
Students who live with family members who have serious health issues and require family members to physically isolate for a prolonged period
Students who can work independently and excelled at online learning during the provincial lockdowns

Pease be advised that by registering for VSS, students will not have any communication with their designated brick and mortar home school teachers or principal and will not be able to participate in sporting events, extra curricular activities/clubs, field trips and in person graduation.  Grade 12 students who complete all diploma requirements at VSS will graduate from VSS and not their previous brick and mortar home school.

Who Should Not Consider VSS Learning?

Students who found remote learning during provincial lockdowns academically challenging
Students who experienced high levels of absenteeism or disengagement
Students who began to exhibit signs of mental health and/or anxiety issues while learning remotely

Households with limited or inconsistent device/internet access
Households that cannot provide adult supervision of the child during regular school hours
Students who wish to participate in sports / extra curricular activities, field trips, in person graduations (if permitted)

Other Considerations – Students with Special Education Needs

Students with Special Education needs that are considering virtual secondary education, will need to evaluate what this change in placement will mean for the supports they receive.

The pedagogy and provision of support in virtual schools may be different for different students depending on the strengths and needs of the student as outlined in their IEP.

If you have any specific questions regarding when considering registering your child, please contact your school principal.
