Murder Mystery
DEAD AIR

The seconds to air are being counted down. It’s chaos around the microphone as everyone tries to get into positions before the radio waves go to work. Those in charge behind the scenes are offering last minute advice: “More energy…Pick up the pace”.

"It’s showtime on the Guy Godfry Radio Show, but all is not well. Rumours are swirling that a big corporation wants to buy out the radio station. Guy Godfry, everyone’s favourite voice in the night, appears to be having a nervous breakdown. And now, in front of a live studio audience, Bunny Bagel Boy falls unconsciously to the ground. This is the fate that befalls the crew at W-EZY and the very dysfunctional cast of the Guy Godfry Show……..

The play is Dead Air. It’s the ACS Drama Club’s third Murder Mystery Theatre initiative. This year’s production is under the capable direction of Mrs. Naomi Ratelband and Mr. Will Ratelband. Mrs. Patti Turvey, senior student Samantha Sanderson and members of the Cosmetology department are in charge of hair and makeup. Set designs are under the watchful supervision of Samantha Sanderson, with the guidance of Mrs. Darlyn Burroughs and the Assumption Art Department. ACS alumnus Nicole Burroughs is also assisting with the production.

The cast and crew’s rehearsal schedule is in full swing, preparing for opening night October 29th. “This play is full of energy and intrigue. The cast is fantastic and the set is wonderfully done. It really sets the tone of the play and allows an easy transition into our characters,” noted Sarah Nixon, who plays a fan club member in the cast.

The show itself is a high energy comedy; the plot surrounds the “potential” homicide of the Bagel Bunny Boy. The crazy ensemble of employees at W-EZY all have motives for wanting someone dead, and all seem to have guilty consciences for some reason or another. But who dunnit? Only the studio audience knows for sure—and they have a chance to participate.

As with previous murder mysteries, audience participation plays an important role in the play. “I think it’s an important aspect for making the audience feel like they are a vital part of the play. I really like being able to feed off of the audience’s energy,” commented Rachel Verschoor, another member of the cast. In this case, the audience members are asked to act as detectives. During intermission the audience will be given time to question the cast members. Each audience member will be given an opportunity to select the correct murderer for a chance to win a prize. All in all the show is an exciting event that keeps the audience guessing right to the end.

Dead Air will be performed October 29th and 30th at 7:00 pm in the ACS Cafetorium. Tickets are $10 each or $20 for dinner and the show. Dinner will be provided by our own Hungry Lion at 6 pm on show nights. For tickets, call the school at 519-751-2030.
