O.S.A.I.D
(Ontario Students Against Impaired Driving)




- 113,515 people die each year due to impaired driving.

- Alcohol is involved in 50% of fatal car crashes.

1 in 5 drivers on Canadian roads at night has been drinking.

- Ontario Students Against Impaired Driving is dedicated to sending the message to young people that drinking and driving kills

- ACS OSAID is a long-standing tradition, with current staff support from Ms. B. Johnson and Mrs. S. Braga

- President for 2003-2004 is Michelle Parker, a member for 3 years

- Other executive members will be chosen shortly

- ACS OSAID this year welcomes more than 20 new Grade 9 members - it's great to have them on board

- National Students Against Impaired Driving Day - October 21/03 - was celebrated at ACS with posters, a homeroom quiz [with prizes] and a heart-wrenching promo prepared by ACS's own ATV

- Several Lions participated in the OSAID display at the annual Haunted Hayride at Brantwood Farms

Upcoming events:

- Selling [non-alcoholic] pina coladas and strawberry daiquiris at Semi-formal on Sat. Nov. 29





12 Days of OSAID" - December 4-19 including

- an interview and a promo on ATV.
-"Celebrate the Season with Reason" sign in front of the school
-Chain of Life in the cafeteria, demonstrating individual students' and staff members' commitment not to drink and drive
-poster campaign
-t-shirt contest
-activities at the Christmas Assembly
-Pre-prom and pre-May 24 weekend activities
-3rd annual staff-student volleyball game
-freezies and other activity [staff pie-in-the-face again??] at the end-of-the-year celebration in June

- OSAID encourages students to sign a "call me contract" with their parents. Although parents may be disappointed with decisions at a party or with friends, they can promise to come and pick up their son/daughter with no immediate question. Safety comes first; discussion later. [a link can be included here for such an agreement]

- OSAID is trying to make ACS and the larger community a safer place. We welcome new members.
