Interview With Officer Nagy.



The high school resource program has been around for 13 years, and has made a big impact inside the schools. The school board entered the program in 1990. Constable Bill Doherty, our first H.S.R.O., was assigned to St. John's College. The program is designed for the students to form a better understanding of the role of the police officer in the community, and the citizen's responsibility to the community. Also to be informed of the law, and law enforcement.



Question and Answer

Q:1.How long have you been a police officer, and how long have you been in the high school resource program?

A:Officer Nagy has been a police officer for 5 and 1/2 years, he has been in the highschool resource program for 1 and 1/2 years.


Q:2.What kind of physical shape do you have to be in to be a police officer, and what kind grade marks should a person have, if their looking to be a police officer?

A:You need to be in the best physical shape possible, to meet the standards of a police force that you are trying to get into. School marks are really important and should be the best marks you can achieve, english and grammar are really important for writing reports.

Q:3.What are some of the steps a person would go through to get hired on a police force?

A:There are several steps in applying to a police force:

1. Background check- They check your history, family information and what you done throughout your life.

2. Writen Test- Apttiude test to see your knowledge and where you stand among others.

3. Physical Test- To see how phyiscally fit you are and what kind of shape your in.

4. Medical Exam- They test to see how healthy you are, and if you took drugs.

5. Psychological Exam- Your session with the psychiatrist will test to see how long your nerves can handle the constant asking of questions and interruptions.


Q:4.What is some of the training a person would do at the police college?

A: The course lasts about 13 weeks and consist of a number of activities. The first few weeks its mostly academic work, later on you get into deffensive Tactics, drving the cruisers,role playing, fire arms training. This course is required if you want to be a police officer. There are two places to do this: Barrie and Alymer.

Q:5.What are some advantages/disadvantages of being a police officer?

A:Advantages

*fun and exciting

*never have the same day twice

*work in a team environment

*the satisfaction of helping others

Disadvantages *shift work

*all the negitive attitude towards police officers

*dangerous

*real busy

*very tiering


Q:6.What made you want to be part of the high school resource program?

A: I was a student when the program started, and it was a great program. I really liked the program, and wanted to do the program ever since I started on the force. I like very much and hope I can stay in the program for a while.



Q:7.What about being around the students do you like the most?

A: I think the most important aspect of this program is to get to know the students and hope to make some friends. I hope show the students that I'm an ordinary guy with a job to do.



Q:8.What do your duties include for being a high school resource officer?

A: There a lot of duties involved:

*investigating situations that happen inside the school

*doing presentations and projects with the students

*keeping the staff and students safe

*to get involved with in the school


Q:9.What do you think the students will benefit the most by having a police officer at the school?

A:I think they will benefit a lot because they can come to me with their problems and i can help them out. They can also learn about the duties of a police officer, and about the law.



Q:10.What's the hardest thing about being a police officer?

A:There are a lot of dangers in our career. The most dangerous I say, would be the fact that you may not come home at night, but if you let this fear psych you out it will affect your ability to think and work.
